Hard work paying off for finance major, offensive lineman Luck

Football player Jeremy Luck

From Athletics Spotlight - Fall 2019

The study of finance and money interests Jeremy Luck. When reflecting on what donors and Ichabod fans have done for him, he’s glad they choose to invest in Washburn University. Their generosity has helped provide the junior offensive lineman with both athletic and academic scholarships.

“I'm just extremely grateful you are taking your hard-earned money and giving it toward students you may have never met,” he said to donors. “I know you could do a lot more with your money, but we are grateful for what you have done.”

Luck wants to work in finance or coaching after earning his degree. When not lifting weights or memorizing plays, he’s interned with Walgreen’s management and has excelled in the classroom, earning academic all-MIAA honors all three years. The Wichita, Kansas, native fell in love with the school, the program and the coaches during a recruiting visit. His hard work has paid off.

“I'm thankful for football for helping to pay my way through school,” he said. The other scholarships he’s earned for his academics help pay for housing, food, books and other expenses. “Working hard in the classroom and getting academic scholarships definitely helps.”

He played in six games last year and will look for increased playing time on an offensive line that was fourth in the MIAA allowing just 13 sacks.

“We return a lot of people, and we have a lot of experience with three all-conference players playing for the offensive line,” he said before the season started. “Right now, it's just getting the chemistry perfect and getting ready to dominate.”

As Luck works toward his degree and last two years of football, he’ll reflect on those who have invested in student-athletes like him.

“There hasn't been a single regret in choosing Washburn,” he said. “I'm just grateful for everything donors and fans do. Go Bods!”
